Life Threw You Lemons So Make Lemonade

Welcome to my little corner of the web! I know I was missing over the weekend of July 4th, but my life seemed to get in the way this past week or so. So where do I start?

In my everyday adventures of having a full-time business the end of June arrived at warp speed. With that came the stress of making sure that everything that could be put on the books was invoiced and shipped out. All that stress made me remember what it felt like when I started my affiliate marketing journey as a newbie. Click Here if you want some encouragement.

The next thing you know Monday July 1st arrived and with the start of a new month came the elated feelings of accomplishment from concurring the month of June. I began to think of the things I needed to accomplish this first week July. Not just with running my full-time business but in moving forward with my affiliate marketing business and my personal life.

On Tuesday I had my monthly meeting with Dean Holland (One of my Mentors) where we go through the processes of gaining our authority in the affiliate marketing niche of Making Money Online. This session is also recorded in case we can’t make it live. I always try to make every event live as it helps me stay consistent with showing up and keeps me with like-minded members where I can share and relate. It’s so easy to just watch the recordings, but it’s not what is best for my personal development.

Conflict No Yes Maybe

On Wednesday came the point of conflict. You see my wife was scheduled for hip replacement surgery that morning and I also had a group meeting to attend on zoom that focused on a software platform called Affiliate Systems using a unique approach to marketing called the Beginners Advantage. After stressing out about how I was going to be able to accomplish both commitments I came up with an idea of how I could do both at the same time.

So I went off to bed Tuesday night with a plan all set out in my mind. I could take my wife to surgery the next morning and since the surgery was supposed to be approximately 3 hours I could bring a pair of ear pods (because you know everyone in the waiting room listens to everyone else’s phone conversations) and I would be able to attend my zoom call. Great Idea Right?

Wednesday morning came and off we went to the hospital. We got my wife all registered and checked in, then before long they came and took her back to the presurgical area. There I was sitting in the waiting room for at least 3 hours, what was I going to do?

Pull out my ear pods and attend my zoom call of course! Except, I left the case with the ear pods on the kitchen table so I wouldn’t forget to bring them.

So my first thought was should I run back to the house and grab them then high tail it back to the hospital so no one would ever know I had left? But what if something should happen and they came out to get me and I wasn’t there? Good thing there’s a recording!

Fireworks

My wife came through the surgery with flying colors and even started to walk just a few hours after! On a good note, the town we live in has a huge fireworks display every 3rd where there are thousands of people who attend. While sitting in my wife’s room talking about the whole event, I looked out the windows and noticed that since she was on the 7th floor it looked down on the lake that they shoot off all the fireworks, so she ended up with the Best Seat in the House so to speak.

After my wife dosed off, I went home to make some dinner and relax. That’s when I realized that for the next week or so I was going to become nurse Mable. I was going to have to help my wife with all her needs and requirements. Taking her to PT appointments, making sure the house stayed in a manner that was acceptable to her standards (NOT Mine). Keeping the shop going and work getting completed and going out the door. Feeding the dogs and cat, taking them out to do their duty etc.

Small Steps

How was I ever going to juggle all these things and work on moving forward with my affiliate marketing business as well. These seemed like unsurmountable tasks! Then I remembered my blog Can You Really Build Your Future 1 Hour a Day. This really helped me slow down and remember that it’s those little steppingstones that get you there not the big jumps we find ourselves trying to take.

So when you find yourself feeling like Lifes events are always getting in the way of moving the needle in your business, remember it’s the little steppingstones (1 Hours) that keep you moving on your journey.

I hope this post has helped share a little more of myself, offers some insight in how even with just 1 hour a day these little steppingstones can help you keep the needle moving in your journey. As always if you have any questions or comments, feel free to leave them below. If you liked the post, please share it with your friends and followers. Thank You for Reading!

  1. Great to read that your wife’s surgery went very well. (don’t forget to put on the apron while you’re nurse Mable; I’m sure she’ll laugh at that!)
The great part about Deans meeting is that they’re pretty much always recorded so even when I attend live, I’m still able to go back and listen to it once again if I’m not sure about what was said during the meeting.
Great positive blog entry! All the best!

  2. There are weeks where nothing seems to follow a normal routine, where no plan can be done, and as a result, you want to work on your business, you know you need to work on it but you simply can’t and you struggle finding the time to get the job done. I call this planning on opportunities. Like you in the waiting room, there was an opportunity. Like me, I plan to do many things on specific hours but end up only having small time window opportunities to work on my business. Like listening to Dean’s lessons in the car while going to work for example. Well, this is where we are I guess.
I ‘m glad to hear you wife is in good condition and that her surgery went well!
    Have a good day!

    1. Martin thanks for your well wishes for my wife. I know what you mean about looking for opportunities, do you think we will ever be able to plan for Murphy?

  3. Great to hear your wife is better and continues to recover.

We are often faced with everyday challenges (such as health) when trying to balance personal commitments, business responsibilities, as well as our own personal development.

It’s not easy, but you’ve mentioned consistency, taking small steps rather than giant leaps can reduce the pressure we put on ourselves.

This I think is incredibly important, to do what we can to relieve stress, and your previous post on building your future one hour a day is exactly how we can manage one day at a time.

  4. Love the title and the graphic that goes with it. I’m so glad to hear that your wife’s surgery went well. Here’s to her speedy recovery. The story of the earbuds sounds just like something I’d do. Yes, life does have a habit of getting in the way of things we really want to do and should be doing. But, as you say every little hour helps. All the best to your wife and to you in your new nursing/housekeeping/business-fulfilling/animal-caring role.

    Hi Ken,

Thank you for sharing such a personal and heartfelt update. It sounds like you’ve been juggling a lot lately, and your dedication amidst the stress is truly commendable.

I’m glad your wife’s surgery went well and that you both enjoyed the fireworks from her hospital room.

Taking on additional responsibilities at home must be challenging, but your determination to keep moving forward, even just an hour a day, is inspiring.

Your reminder about small, consistent steps is valuable. I hope your wife continues to recover well and that you find some peace amidst the chaos. If there’s anything we can do to support you, please let us know.

    1. Meredith, Thanks for your kind words and well wishes. Your comment offering support is one of things I am truly grateful for as a part of the IP Group!

  6. Hi Ken,
Great post! So glad your wife’s surgery was successful!
Reading your post I was playing back time’s over the last couple years when there was more demand on my time than time I had. I was a caregiver for my wife as well after a surgery that had months of recovery ahead. That’s when priority is key. I remember a saying one of my past wise coworkers had when workload was so big. He would say to me “Do what you can and leave the rest… tomorrows another day”. Over 20 years later and I still hear it in my head at the right times 🙂 We do what we can… Cheers.

    1. Denny, Thanks for your well wishes! These times serve as Great reminders of the things we and our wives do and often go un-noticed. It brings a whole new appreciation for both our talents and skills. Thank Goodness Tomorrow is Another Day!

  7. It is amazing what just a few hours a week can accomplish. It’s usually just a matter of getting started. I’m always amazed when I let some home repair project go (sometimes for years), how little time it actually takes me to get it done. Then I think, why didn’t I do that years ago? We can accomplish so much when we just get started.

    1. Nathan I know just what your saying about projects and Hunny-Do Lists! Getting started is a big hurdle for some people. It’s always easier to come up with the Could-A, Should-A and Would-A’s. Here’s to as you say Getting Started!

  8. Hi Ken – Wow, you have a lot going on! I certainly hope things are going better with your wife’s recovery and that you have been able to prioritize caring for her and still accomplishing your business goals. I wish you a very productive week and a week filled with a lot of joy!

    1. Ernie thanks for taking the time to visit my post! Currently my wife has had the expected PT set backs but seems to be coming out of it in stride. I am working on a new idea for my blog hope you will stop by and visit my latest post.
